The whispered word is “run.” This single word will change lives, and create a domino effect.
Who said it? Who did she say it to? Why was this one word so important? Find out in this five star read!
The Whispered Word by Ellery Adams is the second book in the Secret, Book, and Scone Society. Four strong-willed women Nora, June, Hester, and Estelle form a secret group, and they all have scars (some visual and many deep seeded emotional). But it’s hard to keep secrets in the small tourist town of Miracle Springs, where legends of healing waters attract people from near and far.
When a mysterious woman, with refined special talents, becomes a stowaway in Nora’s bookstore, she is conflicted about how to handle the young woman with a hospital bracelet, bruises, and reluctance to reveal anything about herself. However, the enigmatic woman is not the only person who has captured the attention of this small community.
Griffin Kingsley appears in town as if he rode a magic carpet out of thin air. At least that is how this tight-knit community treats this stranger who brings his Arabian themed business Virtual Genie into Miracle Springs. The town’s people have fallen on hard times, so Kingsley is highly scrutinized because he sells their valuable items online.
A questionable death, stolen prized books, and a murder have everyone looking over their shoulders and at each other. Suspicion is immediately cast on the newcomers, and it is up to the four women to decide if their new acquaintance is a friend or killer.
Technically, you could jump this second installment without reading the first book in the series, but the four main protagonists are complex and fascinating. You will want to read the first book before this one! This is not your “light” beach read a cozy mystery. Adams has created a borderline mainstream mystery with her beautiful metaphors and enchanting imagery. This book will captivate you until the end, and then you will want more. Warm up your cocoa, find a comfy chair, and enjoy the journey!
